Choked - It set in a middle class housing colony in Mumbai; closely arranged houses with narrow lanes between, and the pale yellowish walls- it opens to an Indian Middle Class reality.
It ruins around Sarita, a bank employee who runs to manage routine things, her unemployed husband Sushant, their little one and their neighborhood.
Sarita fulfilled her role so easily and confidently. Even though Sushant's(Roshan Mathew) role is not reliable (as he seems always dependant on his wife) I feel like, being empathised by his soft nature.
Many things we can relate to; not that, getting money - out of the blue, but the teeny-weeny incidents that follows the major plot line of the movie.
The script is like a close-packed structure , you may or may not feel good; but you will not feel like choked while watching this movie...

"Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai" is the story of a middle-class housewife. Set in Mumbai in October 2016, the story hits right ‘notes’ till the middle portion. Depicting the life of an ordinary bank employee and her struggles to clear the piling debts, Anurag Kashyap paints a realistic picture of the Mumbai dwellers and their lives. There’s a beauty in mundane things. Despite the growing gap between them, the husband and wife still share warmth. Kashyap and the story writer set up the drama nicely. As the announcement of demonetization, the film takes an unexpected turn from a story of middle-class husband and wife to a satire on ‘note ban’. The announcement of demonetization - We have decided that the 500 rupee, and 1000-rupee currency notes presently in use will no longer be legal tender from midnight tonight – by PM Narendra Modi comes exactly at 55 minutes after the film and the movie focuses on the things that we had witnessed – serpentine queues at the banks, middlemen enchasing the crisis. “This is a chance of a lifetime. Once in 50 years such incidents happen,” a broker tells Saiyami Kher asking her to deposit old notes in her bank and take a commission for doing it so. Anurag has portrayed many such close-to-real-life sequences in the film. However, the film turns into a dull affair after this moment. It turns ineffective after that. It has its many moments to praise about but the satirical portion of demonization lacks sharpness. It turns sloppy at times as well. The film boasts good performances and especially it is Saiyami Kher’s show from start to finish. In the role of Sarita is excellent, she brings life to the character. Her body language and expressions are perfect as a Marathi middle-class woman. Roshan Mathew as Sushant Pillai also plays the role well. The cinematography and the production design is topnotch. The story takes place mostly in a cramped apartment room and the camera brings authenticity and also the chocked feel. The colors are warm. The music is okay. “Choked” is quite a departure from Anurag Kashyap’s regular style of narrating. The director known for his aggressive style lets the story take center stage. This is his restrained work. On the whole, “Choked” is a mixed bag. The initial hour is excellent but it gets disconnected after that but makes a decent watch and a good satire on note ban.

Choked is a unique kind of movie directed by Anurag Kashyap. With demonetization as a backdrop, Choked explores the power struggle at every level - including those who belongs to middle-class. It's all about dreams and aspiration of a middle class Maharashtrian family. The performance were good, but not great. The movie could have been much stronger with more tight screenplay. Choked is smart, but not smart enough that mildly satisfied the depth and struggles of a middle-class family. Choked had much higher expectation, being an Anurag Kashyap film. But the movie had just enough qualities and moments that didn't disappointed.

Anurag Kashyap has once again portrayed the struggle of public in the days following the mindless decision of demonetization. Long unending queues outside banks, bank employees working overtime to cater to thankless, frustrated public and the consequences that impacted all of us. Saiyami Kher has played her part superbly. Well done Kashyap and team.

The movies is fair, acting is good. The movie reflects chemistry between couple also give a good glimpse of Indian neighbours. However, Anurag was more focused on depicting unnecessary confusions and portraying anti-gov views in the story. One last word for the movie "Directionless".

Babu posted a review for Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai in Movies
The film movie ever made keeping the illustrious "Demonetization" in the main plot. The film has exceedingly well written first half, neatly expressed empathy between the couple, chemistry with inquisitive neighbors but somehow it misses the mark at the very end. The last 15 minutes of the film looks more like a patch then a proper fulfillment to a well-made thriller. Saiyami Kher is excellent in her role as a disappointed, vulnerable and ambitious bank employee. Choked runs heavily on the traditional background score. This film might get an extremely polar reviews for some of its political stand.

Everything about this movie is bad except actor's performances who thought they might shoot into critics lap after doing a Kashyap film. Kher is a beautiful girl and can land big roles in big movies but she is suffering from actor's problem of trying to prove themselves. The story is weak and it is like literally no work in done on the screenplay. Climax is dull and makes you realize that you have been fooled to watch this entire film.

Lime posted a review for Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai in Movies
This movie should been an interesting film were it not for the fact that it was poorly scripted and executed with chaotic editing, both of which lead to a total lack of continuity. Scenes appeared to be out of sequence, and at times no explanation was offered for certain events in the film. This resulted in a lack of understanding of these events, and a loss of interest in the film itself. Not a film for a global audience.

Choked comes as one of the bestest Netflix original movies on the platform so far and it is already winning the hearts of the audience due to its unique theme of the story. The movie is centrally based on the topic of demonetization which brought a big change in the Indian monetary system during past years. Saiyami Kher plays the role of Sarita as a main protagonist of the story who is struggling with her daily life scenarios but her life takes a change from the moment she gets introduced to the choked money. The way money has been associated with her profession, daily life struggles combining with demonetization times aligning with political links are the key factors which make this movie worth a decent watch. Really amazing work on the overall storyline, camera sequences, natural acting of all supporting characters, intense background music and it turns out to be one of the remarkable movies of Anurag Kashyap till date.

Sanki posted a review for Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai in Movies
Anurag Kashyap’s “Choked-Paisa Bolta Hai” is an interesting drama that showcases the trials and tribulations within a married relationship along with the ascendancy of the power of money in one’s life. The movie takes a straight road with no melodrama but with a lot of realistic scenes. The heroine who is a bank employee struggles hard to move with the needs of her family amidst her meagre income and her irresponsible husband. Sushanth played by Roshan Mathew, the Malayalam actor is beyond description and in many scenes he has lived through the character depicting its originality. The heroine also has been possessed with a poignant artistic skill where she handles her role in the most beautiful way. The movie has nothing extraordinary when it comes to an end, but it keeps you pinned to your seat with its unexpected turns. The movie gives enough chances for the audience to dream big though the final reality isn’t much humongous. The portrayal of a Mumbai middle class family and their struggle to run ahead in the chase of life is the major germ for the storyline.

Pandi posted a review for Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai in Movies
I felt that Choked was a very different Anurag Kashyap film. It has that usual gritty Kashyap tone written all over it but at the same time, feels quite a bit light-hearted and a breath of fresh air as far as the director's films are concerned. This film feels much more restrained and the craft to be in control of the director. The excellent writing by Nihit Bhave makes it such a compelling story to begin with and Kashyap takes that script a notch higher to deliver perhaps his best film since Gangs Of Wasseypur. There is so much enjoy and appreciate in this film. This is not only an unusual Hindi film but also an unusual Kashyap film. The other highlight of this film is the amazing performances and the terrific music.
